Karelia's tourism potential was showcased in Moscow.

On April 23, a gala dinner was held in Moscow at Europe's tallest restaurant, Ruski, to celebrate the opening of Karelia Week, a participant in the Rostourism project, "Gastronomic Map of Russia." The event was attended by regional governor Artur Parfenchikov, head of the Rostourism Director Zarina Doguzova, as well as representatives of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the Moscow Government.

As he emphasized Mr. Parfenchikov2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Karelia. "And in preparation for the large-scale celebration of this event, we are actively developing special menus featuring authentic dishes from our regional cuisine. In this regard, the tools for promoting territories and regions offered by the federal project 'Gastronomic Map of Russia' are particularly relevant. The cuisine of the Republic of Karelia fully reflects the geography and climate of the Euro-Arctic region, as well as the vast creative potential of the local entrepreneurial community. The government and business will work together to develop culinary tourism in Karelia," he said.

In turn Zarina Doguzova She noted that gastronomic tourism is an extremely promising segment. "I'm very pleased that Russia has begun to understand that gastronomy can be an important aspect in developing a tourism product and unlocking the tourism potential of a region," she said.

It's worth noting that interest in traveling to the region among Russian tourists is currently growing significantly, as a TRN correspondent reported. Deputy General Director of TUI Russia Alexander Sirchenko, who also took part in the event, this year the demand for tours to Karelia has already increased by 15%-20%.

"This year, we've addressed the shortcomings of the previous season. We've introduced new products. Overall, our product line currently offers approximately 30 different tourist routes. We've also signed new direct contracts, including with hotels. Furthermore, this year, we're not only supporting the international symphony music festival in Ruskeala Park, but also, together with the administration of the Head of the Republic of Karelia, planning to make it a significant tourist event attended by both Russian and international tourists. We're interested in hosting similar events and truly hope that this festival will become a hallmark of the region," he said.

We would like to add that a series of presentations from more than 10 regions participating in the federal project "Gastronomic Map of Russia" is planned for 2019, including the Altai Republic, Kaliningrad Oblast, Krasnodar Krai, and others.
