Almost all flights cancelled at Hong Kong airport

Due to mass protests on Monday, August 12, Hong Kong Airport cancelled almost all flights scheduled for that day.

"The operations of Hong Kong International Airport were severely disrupted due to the unrest. As a result, check-in for all "Outbound flights have been suspended," the airport said in a statement.

It also noted that three flights, for which check-in had been completed before the unrest, were able to depart on August 12. The airport is operating normally for arrivals.

It's worth noting that last weekend, several thousand protesters wearing black masks staged a sit-in at Hong Kong Airport. The protest was scheduled to end overnight between Sunday and Monday. However, this did not happen. The protest was prompted by changes to the extradition law, allowing for the extradition of criminal suspects to mainland China.
