Georgia estimates damage from loss of tourists from Russia: minus 60 million dollars

The lack of direct air traffic between Russia and Georgia has caused serious damage to the latter's tourism sector, Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze said.

According to him, as of July, losses in the tourism sector amounted to up to 60 million dollars.

"Today we need to support small and medium businesses in the tourism sector. We have developed two programs that I think will be sufficient for small and medium entrepreneurs in tourism to solve the short-term problems we are facing. I am confident that we will return to high indicators in the tourism sector," said Mamuka Bakhtadze, the press service of the Georgian government reports.

It should be noted that according to Tutu.ru, the ban on flights between Russia and Georgia has had an extremely negative impact on the tourist flow between the countries: if last summer Georgia was ranked 3rd among the most popular foreign destinations, then in the same period of 2019 the country dropped 17 spots.
