British tour operator Thomas Cook announced its voluntary liquidation and has entered into receivership. The announcement was published on the company's official website on September 23.

According to the company, there are currently more than 600 thousand of them abroad. clients, including 160,000 British citizens. Their return will be handled by the UK government, at a cost of approximately €1,400,000.
As a reminder, the tour operator's financial difficulties began about a year ago. To save the company, Thomas Cook's management agreed to a £950 million recapitalization with the Chinese holding company Fosun, which would have resulted in the investor owning 75% of Thomas Cook's shares and 25% of its airline. However, the deal fell through at the last minute, as creditors demanded the new owners increase the amount by £200 million.
