Head of travel agency sentenced to 4.5 years for stealing 5.5 million rubles

The director of a Kurgan travel agency was sentenced to four years and six months in prison for defrauding tourists. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Kurgan Region.

 

As explained by the department, from August 2017 to March 2018, the director of the tourism The agency entered into contracts with citizens to organize tourist trips and then stole the money received from clients, without intending to fulfill its obligations.

"She provided citizens with fictitious documents confirming paid hotel reservations from a tour operator, as well as itinerary receipts for electronic flight tickets. Fifty-six people were recognized as victims in the criminal case. The damages amounted to over 5.5 million rubles," the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.

The agency also notes that the evidence collected by the Kurgan Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia's investigative committee was deemed sufficient by the court to convict the defendant.

"She was found guilty of committing a crime under Part 3 of Article 159 of the Russian Criminal Code, 'Fraud.' She was sentenced to four years and six months in a general regime penal colony," the statement read.
