The national carrier announced an increase in fuel surcharges on domestic flights, which led to higher ticket prices. This is the second time the airline has increased surcharges in six months. And, according to experts, further increases in fares are possible in 2019.
Aeroflot Effective November 27, the airline increased the fuel surcharge on domestic flights in Comfort and Economy Class by 200 rubles, and on Business Class tickets by 400 rubles. This was stated in the airline's materials, cited by TASS.
Thus, the surcharge for an economy class flight has been increased from 2,065 rubles to 2,265 rubles. Meanwhile, fuel surcharges for flights from Moscow to Yakutsk have increased from 3,565 rubles to 3,765 rubles. The surcharge will remain waived on flights between Moscow and points in the Far East and Magadan.
As a reminder, in mid-July, it became known that many airlines were planning to raise ticket prices due to the spike in jet fuel prices that occurred in the spring. At the time, Aeroflot announced that it had increased the fuel surcharge on domestic flights by 200 rubles for economy class and by 400 rubles for business class.
Aviation experts don't rule out the possibility that the carrier will increase fares next year. Among the factors influencing the increase, they cited currency fluctuations and rising fuel prices. However, an expert who wished to remain anonymous emphasized that "the fuel surcharge is the difference between the planned and actual cost of fuel. Currently, this cost fully covers the cost of refueling an aircraft."
