Aigle Azur goes bankrupt and stops flights

French airline Aigle Azur announced that it will cease flights from September 7 due to financial insolvency. The cancelled flights include routes from Paris and Marseille to Moscow, Travel.ru's own correspondent reports.

The carrier, which had been experiencing financial problems for several years, was finished off by a shareholder conflict that occurred at the end of the summer. Passengers who remained with its tickets will not receive any compensation or refund in the foreseeable future, although those who paid for their ticket with a bank card online can try to get their money back through a bank. It is likely that some competing companies will offer special rates for passengers with Aigle Azur tickets, but it is not a fact that this will affect Russian destinations. The company's website is currently unavailable.

Aigle Azur has existed for over 75 years. In recent years, the carrier has concentrated mainly on flights within France, Portugal and North Africa. The company has tried to enter the Russian market for several years with varying success. This summer, it operated four flights a week to Moscow from Paris and two from Marseille.
