British Airways returns to Sheremetyevo

British Airways has decided to partially return its Domodedovo flights to Sheremetyevo. The British carrier plans to operate one of its three daily flights to Sheremetyevo starting October 28, replacing its current Domodedovo route, reports Travel.ru.

This involves a second morning flight from London and an evening flight from Moscow. The schedule remains substantially unchanged from the current one. Starting October 28, departure from London (Heathrow Airport) is at 10:15 AM, arriving at Sheremetyevo at 5:15 PM. The return flight departs at 6:35 PM, arriving in London at 7:55 PM. The flight will continue to be operated by an Airbus A321 aircraft with two classes.

The remaining two flights, departing from London at 8:40 and 21:35, and from Moscow at 16:50 and 5:40, will remain at Domodedovo. The former is typically served by a wide-body Boeing 777 with four classes, while the latter is served by an Airbus A321. Ticket prices are the same for both Moscow airports.

British Airways cited the desire to offer Moscow passengers more choice as the reason for these unexpected changes. It's worth noting that the changes haven't yet been reflected in the booking system, but they will likely be reflected soon.

British Airways hasn't flown to Sheremetyevo for over 15 years, since the summer of 2003. Back then, the company was one of the first to replace Moscow's traditional airport for foreign airlines. The terminal where the company will operate at Sheremetyevo is still unknown.

The move will reduce British Airways' connecting options with Siberia Airlines (S7 Airlines) flights to Domodedovo—only two flights will be available for this purpose, down from the current three. Siberia Airlines itself, having been assigned to Moscow-London flights last year, has yet to commence operations, citing a lack of slots at London's main airports.

On the Sheremetyevo route, British Airways will have to compete with an average of five Aeroflot flights per day. All of these also land at Heathrow, one or two of which are operated by wide-body Airbus A330s.
