Spanish consular authorities have increased the amount of financial support required for Russian citizens to obtain a visa to travel to Spain from 75 euros per person per day to 90 euros. This rule also applies to underage tourists.
According to the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR), the increase in the amount of financial guarantees for foreign tourists is not a sign of the authorities' "mistrust" of guests from Russia, but is caused by an increase in minimum wages in Spain. This was reported to ATOR by the Consulate General of Spain in Moscow.
According to Spanish law, the daily financial support rate for a tourist must be at least 10% of the "inter-industry minimum wage" (SMI) before taxes. In 2018, it was 736.90 euros in Spain, and therefore, when applying for a Spanish visa, Russian citizens had to confirm the availability of financial guarantees at the rate of 73.69 euros per day per person. Now, the SMI is 900 euros. Based on this, the minimum amount of financial guarantees for all foreign applicants has also changed - today it is 90 euros per day per person, but not less than 810 euros per trip or the equivalent of this amount in foreign currency.
As proof of financial security, applicants will only need to present a certificate from a bank where they have a credit card of international payment systems with the required limit.
ATOR clarifies that other EU countries have different requirements for financial support for tourists, but they do not plan to increase its size.
