Italian beaches to be cleared of illegal traders

Italian authorities are preparing legislative changes that will impose significant fines on beach vendors selling counterfeit goods. Not only those who sell “designer” glasses, “branded” baseball caps, pareos, and towels will be fined, but also those who purchase them.

According to the Association of Tour Operators of Russia, the "Safe Beaches" campaign aims to eradicate illegal trade and services, such as massage and tattooing. Vendors caught selling counterfeit products face fines ranging from €2,500 to €15,500 and confiscation of their goods. Tourists who buy counterfeit sunglasses or pay an unlicensed massage therapist will face fines of up to €7,000—the fine depends on the purchase amount and quantity of goods. Therefore, buying from illegal vendors puts tourists at risk of significant loss.

The authorities plan to involve local police, paramilitary carabinieri, and tax police in the fight against the traders.

Let's remember that in Italian cities, buyers of counterfeit fashion brands have been fined for a long time.
