How men and women plan a trip

Experts from the travel service OneTwoTrip have determined how men and women approach travel planning. To do this, the analysts studied the depth of bookings for flights departing from Russian cities since the beginning of the year.

The analysis showed a significant difference There are differences in passenger behavior between genders. Men are more likely to purchase tickets less than a week before departure; at one week's notice, the proportions of men and women equalize, and then women begin to dominate the sales structure (see graph). The difference in approaches is particularly evident when analyzing ticket purchases on the day of departure: men purchase tickets at the last minute 2.5 times more often than women. However, for example, women purchase tickets more than six months before departure almost one and a half times more often than men.

The most popular domestic destinations for same-day ticket purchases were Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Krasnodar. The most popular international destinations were Prague, Istanbul, and London.

"The interesting difference in behavior between men and women may be due to several factors. On the one hand, women may be more meticulous in preparing for trips or, for example, more careful with their spending, trying to buy tickets in advance. On the other hand, men are more likely to take business trips that arise at the last minute. In this case, they or their company travel managers must make quick decisions based solely on flight schedules and available tickets," comments Arkady Gines, Development Director at OneTwoTrip.
