Tangerines on Fridays and “Secret Santa” – tour operators talk about their New Year traditions

With New Year's just around the corner, TRN decided to share with its readers on the last working day of 2018 how tour operators prepared for this magical winter holiday.

As it turns out, many companies have their own New Year's traditions. For example, at ANEX Tour, on December 1st, the first employee to arrive at the office opens the treasured boxes of ornaments and glittering tinsel to decorate the Christmas tree. "Our company is committed to having trees in the forest, so we prefer artificial alternatives," ANEX Tour told us.

In addition, each year the company releases a New Year's horoscope, which is published on the website and on our social media.

"A week before the New Year, ANEX Tour departments draw the names of colleagues to hold a "Secret Santa" tradition. Each person receives a gift, and after receiving it, the recipient must guess who the gift might be based on the nature of the gift. We also raffle off a trip for our employees at every New Year's corporate event; we also love vacationing by the ocean.

At TUI Russia, all employees are treated to tangerines on Fridays in December.

"We have a Secret Santa tradition: employees throw a piece of paper with their name into a 'drum,' others draw it, and give the person they drew little surprises, cards, gifts, and so on. Everyone also receives New Year's decorations, and you can decorate your desk and post a photo of it online to enter a contest and win a prize," TUI Russia explained.

Mouzenidis Travel also shared their traditions: "On New Year's Eve—all of December—our office life is filled with anticipation of our favorite winter holiday. We hold an annual competition for the best workspace decor, organize a Secret Santa-themed gift raffle, and hold fun, yet serious, competitions: we create awards for departments and outstanding employees. Last New Year's Eve, the 'Best Employee of the Year' received the latest iPhone."

"Preparing gifts for our partners is a truly delightful moment. This year, our colleagues—top 100 best sellers—received freshly baked vasilopita, our branded souvenirs, and, of course, a gift set of festive sparkling wine!" noted Mouzenidis Travel.

ICS Travel Group also shared photos of their office with our portal.

"May the New Year be generous with reasons for positivity, new ideas, plans, and endeavors! I wish everyone wonderful impressions, amazing emotions, and inspiring conversations! Health, happiness, warmth, and joy!" Anna Filatovskaya, PR Director of ICS Travel Group, congratulated her colleagues.
