Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has signed an agreement with Société Touristique du Sud to manage the Plaza Sfax & Spa Hotel in Sfax, Tunisia. The hotel is located in the city center, near the Sfax International Fair and 10 km from Sfax-Thina Airport. reports Hhotel Management.

The hotel will launch under the Movenpick Sfax brand this year and will be the Swiss hotel group's fourth property in Tunisia.
"The upcoming addition to the company's portfolio in Tunisia will expand our regional reach, establishing the group's presence in a new location with high growth potential. Sfax is a city with a fascinating history and Mediterranean charm, a growing business hub where high-end hotel offerings are relatively limited and corporate demand is quite strong. Operating a property in the city center will allow us to capitalize on these favorable market conditions," said Andrew Langdon, chief development officer at Movenpick Hotels & Resorts.
According to the Tunisian Ministry of Tourism, foreign tourist arrivals to the country increased by 23.6 percent from January to May of this year, reaching 2.1 million people. The country's tourism sector is expected to recover this year after several challenging years.
In response, the republic's hotel sector has also revived. According to a Knight Frank report, 103 hotels representing international brands were operating in Tunisia in 2018. Currently, the country ranks fifth in this category on the African continent.
Incidentally, experts have noted the upcoming opening of Qatari Diar's Anantara resort in southwest Tunisia as an example of the growing interest from Middle Eastern investors in the region.
The new resort, which opens next year, will offer guests 93 rooms and villas with pools, various restaurants and bars, conference rooms and business centers, children's and teen clubs, a health club and the Anantara Spa.
Dillip Rajakari, CEO of Minor Hotel Group He stressed that the resort "will help continue to develop luxury tourism" in the region.
