Istanbul's New Airport to Open on October 29

Construction of the new Istanbul airport (INA) completed at 90.5%. The first phase of the facility will be officially opened October 29, 2018. Turkish Minister of Transport, Shipping and Communications Ahmet Arslan reported this to Turkish media.

"Of course, a new airport "The Istanbul airport is a project that truly interests the world. It will be an important facility not only for my country but also for global civil aviation. Since we're announcing that we'll open the airport at the end of October, we need to notify international civil aviation authorities in advance. Airlines also need to start selling tickets," the minister clarified.

According to him, testing with navigation equipment is currently being conducted on the airport's runways.

It is worth noting that the main terminal with a capacity of 90 million passengers, three runways and auxiliary facilities will be ready by the end of the first stage of construction and opening in 2018.

Istanbul New Airport will become the largest hub in Europe by the early 2020s. With its favourable geographical position as a natural bridge, INA will position itself as one of the world's leading airports and provide excellent connectivity between East and West.

As a hub, the airport will offer an extensive flight network, significant cost advantages and opportunities for healthy competition.

Around 100 airlines will offer their services at INA.

According to project calculations, the new Istanbul Airport will add 4.91 TP3T to Turkey's GNP. Furthermore, the airport will employ 225,000 people and generate $40 billion in revenue for the Turkish economy by 2025..
