Barcelona hotels are getting cheaper

In the lead-up to the Christmas and New Year holidays, Barcelona hoteliers are reporting a decline in demand, blaming the political crisis in Catalonia. To attract more guests, even the most expensive hotels in the Catalan capital are significantly reducing prices, preparing special offers and various bonuses.

According to Spain in Russian, you can currently find a room in a four-star hotel for €60—an incredibly low price for a hotel of this caliber in Barcelona. On La Rambla in the heart of the city, you can stay for €79, on Passeig de Gracia for €69, and in a five-star hotel for €160 or even less.

According to the Barcelona Hotel Workers' Guild, the average room price in Barcelona fell from €156 to €147 in October alone. The Spanish National Statistics Institute cites data indicating a decline in Barcelona's attractiveness as a tourist destination: in October, the number of overnight stays in Catalan hotels fell by 2.71%, they lost €4.41% of their customers, and the number of foreign tourists decreased by €4.71%. Meanwhile, Spain as a whole recorded an increase in the number of foreign visitors by €1.81%.
