About Russians' spending on vacations

According to a travel search engine AviasalesTravelers from Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Novosibirsk can afford the longest vacations—an average of 1.5–2 weeks. These cities also account for some of the highest average international flight costs, as well as the most luxurious bookings.

Travelers from Krasnodar, Rostov-on-Don, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Sochi, Ufa, and Samara need very little time for their vacation, a maximum of 5 days.

Residents of Novosibirsk face the most expensive flights within Russia and internationally. The average cost of domestic flights is 18,968 rubles, while international flights cost 26,282 rubles. Flights within the country and from Yekaterinburg are also the most expensive, at 14,259 rubles. The next most expensive cities are St. Petersburg (12,260 rubles), Ufa (11,503 rubles), Moscow (11,410 rubles), and Sochi (11,197 rubles).

International flights from Yekaterinburg are also expensive, with summer airfare averaging 25,000 rubles. Moscow lags behind with an average international flight cost of 23,700 rubles, followed by St. Petersburg (23,400 rubles), Kazan (20,300 rubles), Ufa (17,800 rubles), and Samara (16,700 rubles).

Moscow, of course, tops the luxury bookings rankings. A family of two adults and three children bought tickets from Moscow to Athens this summer for 800,000 rubles. A couple from Novosibirsk is in second place, flying to Da Nang for 375,000 rubles. Rounding out the top three is a traveler from St. Petersburg, flying to Miami for 330,000 rubles. However, you don't need to fly to Greece or Vietnam to experience luxury—tickets from Vladivostok to Moscow cost almost 100,000 rubles.

The one thing all Russian travelers have in common is last-minute vacation planning. Most Russians buy tickets no more than a week in advance and overpay accordingly.
