Prosecutor's Office Fires Sheremetyevo Executives Over Baggage Delays

Several managers at Sheremetyevo International Airport have been dismissed at the request of the Moscow Interregional Transport Prosecutor's Office due to widespread baggage claim delays, the agency reported.

 

 

“Based on the results of the review submitted earlier Following the prosecutor's office's submission, the airport's management has taken a number of measures aimed at eliminating the identified violations, and the officials found responsible have been subject to strict disciplinary action," the statement said.

According to the department, a decision was made to dismiss several executives of the service organization, Sheremetyevo Handling LLC. The following were found to be unable to fulfill their job responsibilities: the head of baggage handling, the head of ramp services, the director of the baggage handling directorate, the deputy general director for baggage handling and passenger services, and the general director of the company.

In addition, the airport has simultaneously implemented a phased transfer of flights from Terminal D and increased the number of staff directly involved in baggage handling by over 200. An additional 300 employees from partner companies have been recruited for this work, and 500 candidates have been identified for future employment.

The prosecutor's office's submissions to the management of Aeroflot - Russian Airlines PJSC and Nordwind LLC have not yet been reviewed.

All complaints received from affected passengers are investigated, and based on the results, a decision is made on whether to hold the guilty parties administratively liable.

"Currently, 38 administrative offense cases have been opened under Part 1 of Article 14.4 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (provision of services to the public that do not comply with regulatory requirements). The commission continues its work," the MMTP added.

As a reminder, during the last weekend of June, Sheremetyevo Airport experienced problems with baggage handling, with approximately 9,000 pieces of baggage not being sent to their destination.
