Regular flights Moscow-Cairo may open as early as early February, said Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov on the air of the Russia 24 TV channel (VGTRK), Interfax-Tourism reports.
“It is still necessary to adopt a number of documents, decisions, and sign the relevant protocol, to make changes to the decree of the President of the Russian Federation, but today we can say with sufficient confidence that in the first half of February, if there are no changes or negative events, then regular air traffic between Cairo and Moscow will be restored,” he said.
According to the minister, the airports of the Egyptian capital “fully comply with all aviation security requirements,” as confirmed by Russian specialists.
"As for the airports in the resort cities of Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada, there is still work to be done, this is a task for next year. But the road is mastered by the one who walks it, so let's see how our Egyptian colleagues cope with this task," added M. Sokolov.
On Monday, following high-level talks in Egypt, President Vladimir Putin announced his general readiness to open direct flights between Moscow and Cairo. M. Sokolov then announced the possibility of resuming flights by Russian airlines to Egypt in early February
