Rospotrebnadzor on bacterial infection in France

According to the French National Health Centre, 14 children have been hospitalised with suspected E. coli (E. coli 026) infections after eating Reblochon cheese made from unpasteurised cow's milk with a fat content of 45%. Rospotrebnadzor.

By decision of the authorities, cheese produced at the Chabert cheese factory in the French Alps has been withdrawn from the retail network.

"The decision to confiscate the vaccine was made after E. coli strain 026 was isolated from six of the 14 sick children. Infection with this strain leads to the development of hemolytic uremic syndrome, which often leads to kidney damage in children. Of these six children, one died. The remaining eight are under observation and undergoing thorough examination," the agency clarified.

There are no definitive conclusions that the consumption of Reblochon cheese is the cause of the illness in children, however, the population is advised not to give children raw milk and cheeses that have not undergone additional processing.

Rospotrebnadzor draws the attention of citizens and asks them to take this information into account when planning trips.
