Rostourism (the Federal Agency for Tourism) has warned tourists about a dengue fever epidemic in the Philippines. The agency emphasized that 620 people have died from the disease in the country since the beginning of 2019.

“According to the information available to Rostourism, the Philippine authorities announced "A national epidemic has been triggered following an outbreak of dengue fever. This year, 620 deaths have been recorded, and over 146,000 cases have been reported," the agency said in a statement.
It also notes that the most alarming situation has developed in the central part of the archipelago, on the island of Mindanao, and in the regions adjacent to the metropolitan area on the island of Luzon.
"In this regard, the Federal Tourism Agency recommends that Russian tourists visiting the Philippines exercise extreme caution and stock up on repellents and basic medications to combat tropical viral infections," Rostourism emphasized.
It should be added that, according to the World Health Organization, dengue is transmitted by the bites of Aedes mosquitoes infected with one of four dengue viruses. This disease is common in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Symptoms appear 3–14 days after the infective bite. This febrile illness affects infants, young children, and adults.
Symptoms range from a mild fever to incapacitating high fever, accompanied by severe headache, eye pain, muscle and joint pain, and a rash. There are no specific antiviral medications for dengue.
