The Russian Foreign Ministry has warned of the start of mass protests on the streets of major Iranian cities, including Tehran, Mashhad, Isfahan and Rasht, caused by social discontent among the population, Rostourism reports.
According to the department, unrest is taking place and clashes between protesters and police. Some of the demonstrators were armed, and at least six people were killed.
Russian citizens in the country are advised to remain vigilant and, if possible, refrain from visiting crowded places.
Rostourism calls on tour operators selling tours to Iran to warn their clients about the unfavorable situation, and tourists to take this information into account when planning their trips.
