Rostourism on the virus in India

According to the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of India, an increasing number of cases of the dangerous Nipah virus are currently being recorded in the southern Indian states of Karnataka and Kerala. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), at least 12 people have died from the disease to date, and dozens have been hospitalized.

According to relevant Indian medical and scientific organizations, the Nipah virus is a relatively recently identified infectious agent, which the WHO has added to its list of dangerous pathogens with the potential to cause a mass epidemic. Its natural hosts are carnivorous bats. The disease is presumably spread through the air or by direct contact with infected animals and people. The disease can manifest itself in various ways, from asymptomatic to brain damage and fatal encephalitis. The incubation period can last from 4 to 45 days, with death occurring in an average of 701,333 cases. No vaccine against the Nipah virus has yet been developed. The primary treatment is intensive supportive care.

According to WHO recommendations, to prevent infection it is sufficient to avoid contact with sick animals (primarily pigs) and fruit bats, thoroughly wash vegetables and fruits, and also not drink raw palm juice and strictly observe
rules of personal hygiene.

The Federal Tourism Agency urges tour operators offering tours to the Indian states of Karnataka and Kerala to inform their clients of the unfavorable epidemiological situation. Russian tourists in the region are strongly advised to adhere to the above-described rules for preventing infection with the Nipah virus and, if they feel unwell, to immediately consult a doctor.
