St. Petersburg has once again received the "tourism Oscar"

St. Petersburg won two of the three World Travel Awards 2018 nominations in which the city was represented. On June 30, the results of the European segment of the prestigious international awards, also known as the "Oscars of tourism," were announced in Athens.

Russia's northern capital won the "Best European Cruise Destination" award, where it competed against cities such as Amsterdam, Athens, Bodrum, and Cannes. St. Petersburg also took the lead in the "Best European Cultural and Tourism Destination" category, beating out Barcelona, Paris, London, Florence, Venice, and Vienna.

According to the St. Petersburg Administration's Tourism Development Committee, this is the third consecutive year the city has received the Europe's Leading City Destination award. Last year, St. Petersburg received this title twice: at the European and global levels, also receiving the World's Leading City Destination 2017 award.

The World Travel Awards selects nominees through online voting, and then the best of the best are chosen by a jury of travel industry professionals and media representatives. City safety and developed tourism infrastructure are among the determining factors in determining the winner.
