SCO Bets on Youth Tourism

Saidakbarkhon Akbarov, a representative of the national branch of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Youth Council, reported that the development of youth tourism could provide a new impetus to cooperation and the development of the SCO's tourism potential, TASS reports.

"If we succeed in establishing such routes, it will give new impetus to cooperation and the development of tourism potential within the SCO region," noted Saidakbarkhon Akbarov.

"When discussing the development of youth tourism, we must implement routes that are convenient and accessible to young people, and affordable, since young people are, first and foremost, students," he noted at a meeting of the SCO Youth Council and the Secretariat's Youth League, which was held on the sidelines of the First Assembly "SCO Youth Against Terrorism and Extremism" in Hainan Province.

At this meeting, he explained that the region is currently actively pursuing measures to develop the tourism industry: "Tourism brings together young generations from different countries. We are also working to introduce the so-called 'Silk Visa,' which provides special conditions for tourism to countries along the Great Silk Road. With this visa, tourists will be able to visit not just one country, but several at once."

According to TASS, Taalaibek Daiyrbekov, Chairman of the SCO Youth Council, emphasized the importance of developing the tourism industry, which will also contribute to increased interest in the region from both neighboring countries and the international community. In this regard, the Second SCO Tourism Development Forum will be held in Bishkek in February 2019.

At this meeting, the parties shared their opinions, discussed current issues of the SCO, expressed their attitudes to existing problems, and put forward proposals for strengthening and promoting cooperation.

The first "SCO Youth Against Terrorism and Extremism" assembly is taking place from November 9 to 11 in Dongfang. The meeting will discuss pressing contemporary issues, including countering terrorism and extremism, and ensuring security within the SCO region.
