Siberia Airlines (S7 Airlines) has introduced discounted roundtrip web fares on several of its domestic routes from Moscow. The list of discounts is virtually identical to the list of routes Aeroflot has introduced, according to a Travel.ru correspondent.
The cost of round-trip tickets from Moscow at Siberia web rates is: St. Petersburg - 3694 rubles without baggage and seat selection and 4694 with baggage and choice, Rostov-on-Don - 4500 and 5500 respectively, Krasnodar - 5040 and 6040, Mineralnye Vody - 5154 and 6154, Kazan - 3916 and 4916, Samara - 4260 and 5260, Nizhny Novgorod - 4272 and 5272, Perm - 5028 and 6028, Nizhnekamsk - 5672 and 6772, Yekaterinburg - 7062 and 8062, Chelyabinsk - 7126 and 8126, Tomsk - 9132 and 12132, Novosibirsk - 8200 and 11200, Omsk - 9864 and 11364, Krasnoyarsk - 10102 and 13102, Irkutsk - 12036 and 15036 rubles.
In almost all cases, the price without baggage is several hundred rubles lower than the corresponding Aeroflot fare, while the price with baggage is approximately the same or slightly higher. However, unlike Aeroflot, Siberia Airlines only offers discounts on roundtrip flights and only when purchased through its website or app. Unlike Aeroflot, Siberia Airlines doesn't require tickets to be purchased at least 28 or 42 days before departure: its discounts on some routes can be found even in early or mid-September.
Ticket refunds are permitted only for those with baggage allowances, subject to a 1,500 ruble fee. Tickets with baggage allowances can be exchanged for a possible price difference, while tickets without baggage allowances require an additional 3,000 ruble fee. As a reminder, Siberia Airlines is also holding ticket sales on a number of European routes.
When purchasing any tickets on Siberia Airlines' website (as with almost all other Russian carriers), please be aware that the airline may include insurance by default. This practice, prohibited in the European Union, can result in a loss of 299 rubles per ticket. To avoid falling victim to this insurance scam, find the "Cancel insurance" option on the additional services selection page (or click the shopping cart icon next to the insurance section in the right column) during the booking process.
If a passenger has nevertheless fallen into a trap and paid for unnecessary insurance, it can still be cancelled. In this case, before the start of the flight, you should notify the airline about the cancellation of the insurance service and demand a refund for the insurance.
Let us recall that soon passengers of all Russian airlines may lose the guarantees of free transportation of briefcases, handbags, backpacks, outerwear, as well as baby food, medicine, canes, crutches and other items necessary for medical reasons. This is the draft order of the Ministry of Transport, prepared after the appeal to the ministry by the airline Pobeda, which demanded that passengers be deprived of all these guarantees. If the draft is approved, carriers will be able to limit passengers to only 5 kilograms of hand luggage, and the permissible dimensions of such luggage will be determined by the airlines themselves (Pobeda itself already uses a tiny “calibrator” measuring 36x30x27 centimeters for this, in which it is impossible to place many ordinary small city bags, as well as some mobile electronics - for example, some laptops).
