Taiwan authorities have extended the visa-free stay for Russian citizens from fourteen to twenty-one days. The new visa-free program will begin on August 1, 2019 and will last until July 31, 2020.
As RIA Novosti reports with reference to the Moscow-Taipei Coordination Commission for Economic and Cultural Cooperation, the countdown of days of stay begins from the day following arrival. To enter, a foreign passport valid for more than six months is required, as well as a return ticket or a ticket to a third country.
Last September, Taiwan's Foreign Ministry announced that Russians could enter and stay on the island for up to 14 days without a visa from September 6, 2018 to July 31, 2019. The newly introduced visa-free regime was extended to travel for tourism, business, participation in exhibitions, and visiting relatives. The experiment was successful and extended until July 31, 2020.
Taiwan is an island in the Pacific Ocean that has been governed by its own administration since 1949. The PRC calls Taiwan one of its provinces. By canceling visas for Russian citizens, Taiwanese authorities hope to increase the tourist flow due to those Russians who prefer to vacation in Southeast Asia.
