Tourists are banned from climbing the temples of Bagan in Myanmar.

The ancient city of Bagan has been named a new UNESCO World Heritage site, and a decision has been made to ban tourists from climbing temples and pagodas to prevent their destruction, reports the Independent.

The ban is aimed at preserving the city's 3,500 temples, monasteries and other monuments of the 12th–14th centuries.

According to the publication, the Myanmar government plans to relocate all hotels located within archaeological sites to a designated hotel zone by 2028.

As a reminder, tourists were previously prohibited from climbing Bagan's ancient structures, but authorities were forced to lift the ban due to the potential impact on tourist flow.

It is noted that temples and ancient structures will now be guarded to prevent visitors from climbing them.
