UNWTO launches global tourism startup competition

UNWTO In partnership with Spain's largest tourism corporation, we launched our first competition for the best tourism startups. Online applications are open until September 3, 2018.

Evaluation criteria include the potential impact of the project environmental impact, project team format, business model, uniqueness and feasibility of proposed solutions, as well as the adaptability and sustainability of the project.

Projects must be focused on the future of travel, a specific type of holiday (e.g. sport, adventure, gastronomy, wellness), have a positive impact on the environment and the development of the local community.

Twenty finalists will be invited to celebrate World Tourism Day in Budapest on September 27, 2018. Their trip will be fully funded, and during the event, the finalists will have the opportunity to present their projects to a distinguished jury. Furthermore, the project authors will participate in a seminar to further discuss their projects with potential investors.

Ten of the twenty finalists will then be invited to FITUR (January 24–27, 2019). They will also receive full travel expenses for four days and the opportunity to network with potential investors from over 100 countries.

Ultimately, only one winner will be selected, who will receive money to implement their project.
