Amsterdam to Move Red Light District Out of City Center

In the Netherlands, members of the GroenLinks, D66 and SP parties are planning to move one of the historical quarters of Amsterdam, the Red Light District, outside the city center due to the fact that a large flow of tourists, as well as residents, do not seek the services of priestesses of love, which reduces their income.

The Red Light District is a historical place and is known to many. The street appeared a long time ago, in the 12th century. At that time, women hung red lanterns in their houses so that men who arrived at the seaport of Amsterdam could distinguish the house where they could go and get "love".

At the moment, members of the above-mentioned parties will discuss the future of the "red light district", and they also suggest that if new licenses are issued for prostitution outside the city center, then women can legally work in safety, without having to deal with the many tourists who came just to look at them, RIA Novosti reports.

GroenLinks says: “We can make this alternative location as safe, attractive and responsive as possible to the wishes of sex workers.”

D66 party member Alexander Hammelburg is confident that the new locations should attract prostitutes, and then they will leave the "street of red onari", since there they will be able to work without travelers coming to photograph them.
