The Berlin authorities have decided to significantly increase prices in public transport from January 1. At the same time, it will affect mainly tourists - the tariffs for the corresponding travel cards will jump by approximately 10-20%, reports our own correspondent Travel.ru.
At the same time, tickets for local residents will go up in price slightly — usually by about 2-4% — or not at all. A standard ticket for one trip within two hours within the city limits (including Tegel Airport) will cost 2.9 euros instead of the current 2.8; a ticket for 4 such trips will not change in price (9 euros); a short-distance ticket will go up in price from 1.7 to 1.9 euros. A ticket from Berlin to the near suburbs (for example, to Potsdam, Oranienburg or Schönefeld Airport) will cost 3.6 euros instead of 3.4. All tickets are valid on any type of transport — buses, trams, the metro (U-Bahn), and city trains (S-Bahn).
Tourists will be less lucky. The price of a day pass for Berlin will increase from 7 to 8.6 euros; with the suburbs - from 7.7 to 9.6 euros. A day pass for a group of up to 5 people will increase in price from 19.9 to 23.5 euros for Berlin and from 20.8 to 24.9 euros with the suburbs. A weekly pass for Berlin will cost 34 euros instead of the current 30, with the suburbs - 41 euros instead of 37.5. A weekly ticket for Berlin and all of Brandenburg will cost 70.5 euros instead of 67.3 (the same ticket for a day - 22 euros instead of 21).
Obviously, various types of tourist pseudo-discount tickets for 48 or 72 hours, 4, 5, 6 days (Berlin Welcome Card, Berlin CityTourCard) will also increase in price proportionally. However, their cost for 2020 has not yet been officially published. When buying them, it is worth carefully checking whether their purchase will bring at least some benefit: in most cases, the discounts provided are small.
One of the positive aspects of the new tariffs is the introduction of a daily supplementary ticket. For example, if a tourist has a weekly ticket only for Berlin itself, then for an excursion to Potsdam, two supplementary tickets (Anschlussfahrausweis) are currently needed for 1.6 euros - there and back. From January 1, such tickets will increase in price to 1.7 euros, but at the same time a daily supplementary ticket (Anschlussfahrausweis Tageskarte) will be introduced for 3.5 euros. It allows unlimited travel in the suburbs all day, without worrying about the two-hour validity of a single ticket. Or, for example, spend most of the day in Potsdam and fly out of Schönefeld Airport in the evening.
