Tickets for German trains will include public transport.

German Railways is introducing the option of purchasing a combined ticket for trains and public transport. Travel on public transport in departure and arrival cities will be included in almost all long-distance train tickets for journeys over 100 kilometers, reports Travel.ru.

Free travel on public transport with a train ticket (called a City Ticket) was previously only included in tickets sold at a discount for BahnCard regular customers. Starting August 1, the City Ticket will be included in almost all tickets for distances over 100 kilometers.

A City Ticket allows travel within the departure city on public transport to the train station on the day of travel, and also from the arrival station on the same day. A City Ticket eliminates the need for travelers to worry about paying for travel from the train station to their hotel or vice versa. City Ticket is valid in 126 cities in Germany—that's practically every major city. It's important to note that it's valid only within the city itself, not in the surrounding suburbs (for travel there, it's best to purchase a train ticket directly to the nearest commuter train station).

An exception will be the Super-Sparpreis ticket, which will also go on sale on August 1st. This is the minimum, non-refundable fare, starting at €19. The regular discounted Sparpreis fare will be at least €4 more and will include not only the City-Ticket but, as is currently the case, the option to return the ticket with a penalty if the trip is cancelled.
