The Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah has become a Guinness World Record holder thanks to the recently opened world's longest zipline on Jebel Jais Mountain.
The ruler of the emirate, Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, became the first visitor to the attraction.
The special commission that certified the record established the descent's length at 2,830 meters, equivalent to the length of 28 football fields. It is now officially the longest zipline in the world. The previous record belonged to Puerto Rico's "Monster" zipline, which is 2,250 meters long.
"This is a tremendous achievement for the emirate!" said Haitham Mattar, Director General of the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority. "We are currently seeing an unprecedented influx of international tourists. Never before have so many tourists come to Ras Al Khaimah. We are confident that the new zipline will become a flagship adventure tourism experience in the Middle East and will help the emirate reach a new level of tourism."
The zipline was built by Toro Verde with support from the Emirate's Department of Tourism Development. It took over four months to construct the zipline, which is located at an altitude of over 1,680 meters above sea level.
The rope used for the descent weighs six tons. To ensure safe descent, visitors will be provided with a special suit and equipment. They will descend the rope horizontally, in the so-called "superman" position—head first. The descent itself will take 2-3 minutes, after which they will transfer to a special platform, from where they will descend to the ground, traveling approximately one kilometer along the rope.
"The ride consists of two parallel tracks, allowing you to enjoy the ride with friends or family," said Jorge Jorge, CEO of Toro Verde. "Depending on rider weight and weather conditions, the ride reaches speeds of 120-150 km/h, and the ride itself lasts 2-3 minutes. Currently, the ride serves approximately 200 visitors per day, or approximately 100,000 per year."
There is no age limit for those wishing to ride the attraction, but there are height and weight requirements. Those wishing to ride must be at least 120 cm tall and weigh at least 45 kg. The maximum weight limit is 150 kg.
The price of the descent is 10,000 rubles.
