As part of the Rostourism project “Gastronomic Map of Russia,” “Kuzbass Week” opened in Moscow

Fifth gala dinner The Rostourism project "Gastronomic Map of Russia" took place at Europe's highest restaurant, RUSKI, on October 28. Kuzbass Week was opened by Kuzbass Governor Sergei Tsivilev and his wife, Anna Tsivileva, and the team chefs and restaurateurs region, as well as descendants of the indigenous peoples of Kuzbass: the Shor singer and storyteller Chyltys and the Teleut performer Natalia Chebelkova.

The official launch of the regional cuisine week of the federal project was supported by deputies and senators from Kuzbass, representatives of the Moscow Government, the Federation of Restaurateurs and Hoteliers, the National Association of Chefs of Russia (the official representative of the World Chefs Association (WACS)), and the heads of leading Russian restaurant holdings. Special guests of the evening also included TV presenter Elena Malysheva, who was born in Kemerovo, the capital of Kuzbass, and People's Artist of Russia Dmitry Malikov, who has implemented charitable projects in Kuzbass.

Kuzbass is implementing a program to prepare for a large-scale celebration of the region's 300th anniversary. Projects aimed at increasing tourist flow are being implemented in the region. Specifically, new infrastructure is planned for Sheregesh, Siberia's most popular ski resort, in southern Kuzbass.

"Kuzbass was one of the first regions in Siberia to be included in the Rostourism project 'Gastronomic Map of Russia'—this is very important to us. Kuzbass is a beautiful and truly unique region. We have stunning nature: mountains, taiga, pristine high-mountain streams. It's impossible not to admire this beauty. But the nature of Kuzbass is more than just beauty. Our region is strong and powerful. Kuzbass is made up of people of a special character—strong, vibrant, talented, and hospitable. And gastronomy is part of this culture of hospitality. We want our region's uniqueness to be known throughout Russia and beyond. We invite you to Kuzbass today and always, to taste the traditions, to be amazed by the new, and to wish to return again." said Kuzbass Governor Sergei Tsivilev at the opening of Kuzbass Week in Moscow.

The Kuzbass menu was presented by Ekaterina Shapovalova, coordinator of the Rostourism project "Gastronomic Map of Russia," and the regional team of the project from Region 42. The presentation of each dish was accompanied throughout the evening by performances by Shor storyteller and singer Chyltys, who performed ethnic melodies on the jaw harp, and by Teleut singer Natalia Chebelkova.

"The UN declared 2019 the International Year of Indigenous Languages. At the opening of 'Kuzbass Week,' descendants of the region's indigenous Shors and Teleuts prepared authentic dishes and spoke the language of their ancestors. The week, a region participating in the 'Gastronomic Map of Russia,' at RUSKI, kicked off ahead of National Unity Day and preparations for a large-scale gastronomic festival. The carefully preserved culinary culture of these small indigenous peoples remains little known to the general public. A clear competitive advantage for the region, Shors and Teleut dishes will become an integral part of the regional cuisine of Kuzbass, alongside dishes of modern 'Siberian' cuisine. On November 3-4, 'Cuisine of the Peoples of Russia' will unfold in Nizhny Novgorod, where we will showcase the culinary potential of Russia's regions in all its ethnic diversity, and Kuzbass will play a prominent role in this team."  — commented Ekaterina Shapovalova, coordinator of the federal project of the Federal Agency for Tourism, "Gastronomic Map of Russia."

Kuzbass Week has announced the mobile festival "Gastronomic Map of Russia," which will take place on November 16 during the opening of the 2019-2020 ski season in Sheregesh. The season opening will take place on November 15-16. This is the first time this event has been included in the "Gastronomic Map of Russia" festival program. Rostourism is organizing the 21st mobile festival in Sheregesh, where a team of local chefs will present guests of the ski season opening with a menu of regional dishes prepared in mobile restaurants—special edition GAZelle NEXT food trucks. Following the festival, the presented menu will be displayed at the participating venues, and their restaurants will be featured on the "Gastronomic Map of Russia" on Google Maps.

"I invite everyone to the opening of the tourist season in Sheregesh on November 15th and 16th. We've done a lot in Sheregesh, and it's completely different this year. For example, we'll be hosting the Russian Alpine Skiing Championships. And you definitely need to come to the opening of the winter season, in part because we'll be presenting the 'Gastronomic Map of Russia' project: for two days, we'll be presenting new authentic dishes and creating a regional cuisine menu featuring the indigenous peoples of Kuzbass," added Sergey Tsivilev.

In 2019, the Rostourism project "Gastronomic Map of Russia" launched a program promoting Russian winemakers and tourist routes, "Wine Roads." Leading Russian wineries partnered with the gala dinners at RUSKI for the regions participating in the "Gastronomic Map of Russia." On October 28, winemakers from various regions presented Russian wines from producers in the Republic of Dagestan (Derbent Wine Company) and the Lefkadia Valley (Krasnodar Krai).
