From August 16 to 19, due to expected heavy rainfall, tourists vacationing in Sochi are urged to avoid water and mountain activities. A corresponding notice was published on the city administration website.
“So, from the evening of August 16, as well as in the period from the 17th to the 19th A combination of hydrometeorological events is expected in the resort area in August: heavy rains, downpours with thunderstorms, and hail in some areas. A sharp rise in river water levels is possible, reaching unfavorable levels in some places. The risk of small mudflows in the mountainous area increases. Furthermore, there is a risk of tornadoes forming over the sea in the Magri-Veseloye area," the statement reads.
It also notes that, in light of this, rescuers are asking tourists and local residents to refrain from recreation near water and in the mountains, to be vigilant, and to take all necessary precautions. Avoid parking vehicles under trees, advertising banners, and other structures.
