The Ufa City Prosecutor's Office has approved the indictment in the criminal case against the head of the travel agency "Five Stars" for embezzlement of money on an especially large scale.
"The Ufa City Prosecutor's Office has approved the indictment in the criminal case against 53-year-old Gulnara Yafaeva. She is accused of committing crimes under Parts 3 and 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud), Part 4 of Article 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (embezzlement on an especially large scale)," the press service of the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Bashkortostan reported.
As the investigation notes, the director of the Five Stars travel agency received more than 20 million rubles under contracts from 177 clients from December 2017 to September 2018 as payment for trips to Turkey, Greece, Thailand, the UAE and other countries. The cost of the tours ranged from 40 to 335 thousand rubles.
"Yafayeva failed to fulfill her obligations to book and purchase the tours, spending the money at her own discretion. The victims were unable to fly out on vacation and, having learned from tour operators that the tours had not been paid for by the travel agent, contacted the police," the department added.
In addition, the director of the travel agency is accused of stealing money from his colleagues totaling more than 4.1 million rubles.
