At the height of this tourist season, Paris is experiencing an unprecedented influx of visitors, as well as pickpockets ready to fleece unwary tourists. For the second year in a row, authorities in the French capital have added an additional 5,000 officers to their existing police force. Reinforced patrols will monitor the city's most popular tourist areas.
The Louvre, Montmartre, the Champs-Élysées, the Trocadéro area, the Eiffel Tower, the Opéra, the Place du Châtelet, and the Latin Quarter will be under special protection, according to the Association of Tour Operators of Russia. At least 15 police patrols will be on duty daily in each of these locations. In addition, the area around these landmarks will be monitored using mobile and stationary surveillance cameras.
The police's primary responsibility is to protect tourists from scammers, pickpockets, and street robbers. Police recommend that tourists be extremely careful and keep an eye on their belongings, and avoid gambling with strangers. It's best to keep cash and wallets in front pants pockets, avoid leaving bags over the back of chairs in cafes, and avoid placing phones on tables on outdoor terraces. Tourists should also check the zippers and locks on their bags and backpacks and avoid engaging in conversation while withdrawing cash from an ATM.
