Thailand's Department of National Parks and Wildlife is again strongly recommending that tourists refrain from drinking alcohol while visiting protected areas. Information boards and posters about the complete ban on alcohol will soon appear in all national parks across the country.
According to Thailand News, visitors who violate the rule, which was established several years ago, will be asked to leave the national park immediately. They also face a fine of one thousand baht ($30) or imprisonment for one month.
Park administrations and staff have been instructed to enforce the law. The department also wants to involve tourists in law enforcement, urging them to report visitors consuming alcoholic beverages in the national park to officials via the hotline (1362).
Interestingly, many of the country's resort areas and popular beaches are located within national parks. There's no word yet on whether an exception will be made for them.
