Tips for tourists

Svetlogorsk City Tour

The city of Svetlogorsk, known as Rauschen until 1946, is located on the Baltic Sea coast in the Kaliningrad region. It is a resort town with numerous sanatoriums, boarding houses, and holiday homes. Svetlogorsk boasts many surviving German-era buildings. Legend has it that the city, with its frequent inclement weather and lush greenery, was originally intended to be named Zelenogradsk, but due to confusion (in 1946), it became Svetlogorsk, and the city, which at the time lacked greenery, became Zelenogradsk.

A lovers' arch, something similar can be found in every city. In the background is Lake Tikhoye.

The Svetlogorsk cat doesn't like to be photographed, at least that's how he looks.

Kurortnaya Street, we're heading to the organ hall.

Ditto. If you walk 200 meters further, you can see a chapel at the site of the tragic destruction of the kindergarten on May 16, 1972; I didn't make it there. There will be a separate article about the German cemetery where the dead children are buried and where a monument is erected.

And this is the calling card of Svetlogorsk—the hydrotherapy tower, which belongs to the military sanatorium. This very image is featured on the 70% souvenir from Svetlogorsk.

A slightly different angle

Well, here's the general plan of the hydrotherapy center.

The cable car descends to the sea. The cable car is about 130 meters long. I don't remember the fare, but it's somewhere around 15-20 rubles.

This scarecrow, the Frog Princess, looks creepy at night.
