Starting Thursday, July 26, Aeroflot will increase fuel surcharges by 200–400 rubles on domestic flights across all its airlines. The carrier is doing this to offset the spring fuel price hikes, Kommersant reports.

According to the publication, the increase The rate will be 200 rubles per flight segment for Economy and Comfort Class, and 400 rubles for Business Class. The increase will apply to all bookings made on or after July 26.

Kommersant experts also report an increase in fuel surcharges for foreign carriers. Specifically, Qatar Airways announced a gradual increase in fares by €20–€40 on international flights, effective June 28.

Tourism market experts, in turn, expect an increase in the cost of transportation on package tours by the winter season of approximately 10%.

The increase in the fuel surcharge is directly related to the rise in jet fuel prices this spring. As Deputy Energy Minister Pavel Sorokin previously stated, fuel prices have increased by 6.41% since the beginning of the year. In June alone, according to Rosaviatsia, jet fuel prices increased by 2.71% to 50,800 rubles per ton. Over the past year, the increase has totaled 451% of the previous year's price.

No other Russian air carriers have yet announced fuel surcharge increases. However, UTair President Pavel Permyakov stated that his company will be forced to do so if its competitors follow Aeroflot's example.
