German airline Air Berlin is cutting back on long-haul flights, according to the FWV portal.
According to German media, Air Berlin is beginning to cancel unprofitable routes amid daily losses of several million euros. By the end of September, the airline will cease flying from Berlin to Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. However, flights to New York and Miami will continue. The number of flights on the Düsseldorf-Boston route will be reduced. The airline will also cancel its largely unprofitable daily flight to Abu Dhabi.
As a reminder, in mid-August, the German carrier announced it was filing for bankruptcy. The German government will provide the company with a €150 million loan in mid-September. However, Air Berlin's cash reserves may not be sufficient by that date. This is why it has begun cutting back on its flight schedule. Rumors suggest that numerous investors are making offers to purchase the airline's assets, including carriers Lufthansa and Easyjet, as well as the investment company Wöhrl.
Air Berlin operates flights from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Kazan and several other Russian cities to Berlin, Helsinki, Stockholm, Warsaw, Vienna, Rome and Athens.
