
Twenty-seven new hotels with 5,500 rooms will open in Moscow in 2018. This announcement was recently made by Konstantin Timofeev, Chairman of the Moscow City Committee for the Implementation of Investment Projects in Construction and Control over Shared Construction.
According to the official, by the end of the year, 27 hotel facilities in total are planned to be commissioned in the capital A total of 5,552 rooms. Construction and installation work is currently underway at 20 sites. The remaining facilities are in the permitting process, said K. Timofeev.
Eight hotels are scheduled to open in the first and second quarters of 2018, providing over 1,700 guest rooms.
Currently, there are 1,183 hotels with 67,000 rooms in Moscow. Eleven more properties are expected to open in 2019.
Meanwhile, it was announced that the State Duma passed the bill on mandatory hotel classification in its second reading. Hotels with more than 50 rooms must obtain stars by July 1, 2019, and those with more than 15 rooms by January 1, 2020. Accommodation facilities will also be required to confirm their classification twice a year. The document stipulates administrative penalties for providing services without the appropriate certification.
Currently, Russian hotels and motels can undergo classification voluntarily. As of December 2017, 12,000 hotels had done so.
