Europeans aged 15 to 35 travel on average 2-3 times a year. This data was published by the European statistical service Eurostat on its official website.
According to the data obtained, the most active holidaymakers among EU residents are Europeans under 35 years of age. In 2015, 66% of this age group traveled for tourism purposes. Among those over 35, the number of those who travel abroad is 6% smaller.
On average, each young European took two to three trips per year, lasting four to five nights. More experienced travelers typically traveled for five to six nights. Of these trips, 75,133,000 men and women under 35 took place within their own country. 19,133,000 young people traveled within other EU countries, and 6,133,000 traveled outside the EU.
The most popular mode of transport for all European tourists was the car, chosen by 691 tourists aged 35+ and 611 young people. Additionally, 151 young people travel by air, 131 prefer trains, and 81 prefer buses.
In September, PayPal conducted a survey on a similar topic among Russians. It turned out that the overwhelming majority of our citizens—851,000—had traveled outside their region of residence at least once in the past 12 months. Of these, 601,000 travel within Russia, and only 61,000 travel abroad. A combined total of 191,000 of our compatriots travel both within and outside the country.
