How will Boracay Island change after its opening?

The resort island of Boracay in the Philippines will be limited to 19,000 tourists per day, Abs-Cbn reported, citing the country's Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Boracay will be fully open to tourists on October 26. However, authorities intend to limit Tourist flow. The resort will be able to accommodate no more than 19,000 guests daily. The local government will also limit the number of tourists planning to stay for 2-3 days to no more than 6,405 per day. Boracay has approximately 6,000 rooms, each accommodating up to 3 people.

Philippine authorities have also imposed other restrictions. For example, there will no longer be Ibiza-style parties on the island. Smoking and drinking alcohol in public places are prohibited. Eating and drinking are no longer permitted on beaches, except in cafes and restaurants. Massages are permitted only in specialized salons.

As previously reported by TURIZM.RU, the tropical island of Boracay was closed to tourists for six months from April 26, 2018. This measure was taken to restore and preserve the resort's ecology. In 2017, the island hosted approximately 2 million tourists. As a result, Boracay faced a number of serious problems. Specifically, it was impossible to recycle and remove all its waste, and the sea was polluted by wastewater from hotels. Describing the situation, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte called Boracay a "cesspool."
