Greece intends to launch cruise service to southern Russia this year, according to Velanis Dimitrios, adviser to the Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic, Interfax reports.
According to the Prime Minister, the Greek authorities have been considering this for a long time The issue of opening a cruise line between Greece and Russia is being discussed. It could possibly launch this year, stated V. Dimitrios. Such cruises would be of interest to residents of northern Greece and all residents and vacationers on the Russian Black Sea coast. The official noted that the cruise service would help combine religious and pilgrimage tourism to the Holy Mountain, central Greece, Meteora, and historical Greek sites in southern Russia. Furthermore, many Greeks would be able to visit the lands where their ancestors lived, noted the advisor to the Greek Prime Minister. The service would connect northern Greek ports and southern Russian cities, including Sochi, with ports of call in Turkey.
As a reminder, in April, the simplified visa regime for tourists arriving to the Greek islands from Turkey was extended. Thus, Russian citizens located on the Turkish Aegean coast can visit the Greek islands of Kos, Rhodes, Lesbos, and several others by ferry without a visa. Tourists arriving from the Turkish ports of Bodrum and Marmaris receive a visa on arrival. A single-entry, non-Schengen visa, which is not valid for the rest of Greece or EU countries, costs 35 euros. Such trips are very popular among our compatriots.
