Rules for providing emergency assistance to tourists abroad are changing

Starting September 3, the Tourpomoshch Association will provide emergency assistance to organized tourists abroad only after the tour operator has declared its cessation of operations. The corresponding decree was signed by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

Chairman The government signed a decree amending the "Rules for Providing Emergency Assistance to Tourists." According to the document, starting September 3, the "Turpomoshch" association will be able to pay for the transportation and accommodation of affected tourists only after the tour operator has declared its closure. Previously, failure by a tour operator to fulfill its obligations to clients was sufficient to qualify for assistance.

At the same time, after September 3, Rostourism will be able to independently remove tour operators from the register in the event of non-fulfillment of contractual obligations. To do so, the agency will only need mass complaints from affected tourists, travel agents, press reports, and other information. Removal from the register is considered an insured event, and affected tourists will thus be able to receive compensation for their cancelled vacations.

In total, 4,390 travel companies are listed in the Rostourism register as of August 28.
