The Russian Ministry of Transport has announced new conditions for suspending the operations of unscrupulous airlines, Interfax reports.
Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov spoke about changes to the Federal Aviation Regulations, which expand the grounds for restrictions or suspension of the carrier's air operator certificate.
The airline's operations will be in question in the event of an unsatisfactory financial and economic situation at the end of one quarter, the presence of salary arrears for two months, as well as delays of more than two hours or cancellations of more than 20% flights per month, excluding delays due to weather conditions.
According to M. Sokolov, the new regulations will improve the effectiveness of monitoring the financial and economic performance of carriers. These measures should help identify risks and prevent a repeat of the situation that occurred with VIM-Avia.
As a reminder, in September 2017, one of Russia's largest carriers, VIM-Avia, announced the end of charter flights and later declared bankruptcy. Approximately 140,000 passengers suffered as a result of the airline's actions.
