The international food information association ProVeg has named the best airlines for vegetarians.
Experts from the ProVeg association have noted a growing demand for vegetarian dishes in in-flight meals worldwide. That's why they studied the menus of 50 The largest airlines compiled a ranking of the best carriers for those who have given up animal products. The experts considered not only the variety of dishes but also the availability of information about them on the company's website and the ease of ordering.
Scandinavian airline SAS is recognized as the leader. It offers vegetarian and vegan starters on every flight. Other meals feature reduced meat content. Swiss airline SWISS is in second place. The company partners with Haus Hiltl, the oldest vegetarian restaurant in Zurich, which has specially developed meat-free dishes for passengers. Air India rounds out the top three. Since 2017, the carrier has served exclusively vegetarian meals to its economy class passengers on all domestic flights.
Aeroflot ranked fourth in the ProVeg rating. According to the airline, 17 special meal options are offered on flights, including several vegetarian options. Passengers in all classes can order strict vegetarian meals (no animal products, dairy, or eggs), Asian vegetarian meals (no meat or fish, with limited dairy), or a fruit meal. These meals are available upon request at least 36 hours before departure and at no additional charge. However, this extensive selection is only available when departing from Sheremetyevo.
ProVeg experts note that nearly every major international airline now offers at least one full vegan meal and several vegetarian options that can be ordered in advance at no extra cost.
