Time to sharpen your skates: 13 days left until the season starts

Artificial ice skating rinks will open in Moscow on November 1, weather permitting, according to Moscow media.

According to Moscow Deputy Mayor for Housing and Public Utilities Pyotr Biryukov, 191 skating rinks with artificial ice and 1,283 skating rinks with Natural. All necessary infrastructure is currently being prepared: lighting, rental stations, changing rooms, medical facilities, food outlets, and restrooms, the official told reporters. The artificial ice rinks are scheduled to open on November 1. Only above-zero temperatures and rain could change this.

The largest artificial skating rink is at VDNKh. Its total area, including infrastructure, was 68,300 square meters last season. The artificial skating rink in Gorky Park is scheduled to open by November 17. A 10-meter-tall, dynamic light cube will replace the central fountain. The shimmering facets of the cube will shimmer with different colors, creating a rhythmic pattern and optical illusions, immersing all guests in a stereoscopic experience. The skating rink will also feature six pavilions, 20 food outlets, a children's ice rink with a recreation area, rental shops, and a café.

Furthermore, Moscow will soon open an artificial ice rink in Sokolniki Park and a GUM skating rink on Red Square. Following tradition, a skating rink will also open in the Hermitage Garden.

Last year, free artificial ice rinks were available in many Moscow parks, including Fili, Berezovaya Roshcha, Angarskie Prudy, Rostokinsky Aqueduct, Borontsovsky, Ostankino, 50th Anniversary of October, Goncharovsky, Northern River Station, Nikulino, Dubki, Severnye Dubki, and the landscape parks in Mitino and Yuzhnoye Butovo.
