
Saudi Arabia will allow women over 25 to visit the kingdom without being accompanied by male relatives, according to Gulf News.
The largest Arab state on the Arabian Peninsula is becoming more accessible to women. Previously, Saudi Arabia Foreign female tourists could only visit with their father, brother, or husband. New entry regulations allow women over 25 to enter the country unaccompanied. For such travelers, the kingdom's authorities have introduced single-entry tourist visas. Visitors can enter Saudi Arabia within 30 days of receiving the visa.
According to General Omar Al-Mubarak, Director of the Saudi Arabian Commission for Licensing, Tourism and National Heritage, the electronic system for issuing tourist visas will be operational in the first quarter of 2018.
In recent years, Saudi Arabia has embarked on large-scale projects to develop its tourism sector and increase the number of foreign visitors. Local authorities aim to create new tourist destinations beyond the religious sites of Mecca and Medina. In the summer of 2017, the Red Sea International Tourism Project was launched. Construction of a major international resort, in collaboration with leading global hotel brands, has begun in a lagoon featuring 50 pristine islands.
Among the attractions located in Saudi Arabia, popular with tourists are the Al-Haram and Al-Masjid an-Nabawi mosques, the main place of pilgrimage and veneration for Muslims – the Kaaba, Mount Arafat, and others.
