Moscow buses will lose turnstiles. This applies not only to city routes but also to suburban routes, including those to airports. This was reported by the press service of the Moscow Department of Transport.
From January 1, 72 Moscow bus routes will no longer have turnstiles. This primarily applies to large buses operating in the city center and on popular routes, as well as to Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo airports. In total, approximately 1,100 buses will be turnstile-free. Passengers will now be able to enter through any door and pay using validators installed inside the vehicle. If you need to buy a ticket from the driver, it's best to enter through the front door.
City officials are confident that the innovation will reduce boarding time for passengers and save up to five minutes on the journey. An increased number of ticket inspectors will be deployed to monitor fare dodgers. At the same time, authorities hope that Muscovites and city residents will pay their fares responsibly.
However, many don't rule out the possibility that switching only certain bus routes to a turnstile-free system will lead to confusion. Passengers won't know which door to enter.
For those planning to travel to the airport by bus in the near future, please note: buses #611 and #272 to Vnukovo, as well as #851 to Sheremetyevo, will not have turnstiles, while #911 and #817 will still have turnstiles.
